The next monthly membership meeting of the Greater Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Wednesday, August 2nd, 7:30 AM, at the Green Country Inn - 620 Souder Road. All new and prospective members are invited to attend.


The next GBACC Business Card Exchange will be Wednesday, August 16th from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. It will be at Paradise Title, 4755 Catholic Church Road, Knoxville, MD, phone 301-834-8444.


All monthly membership meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 am in the Green Country Inn,620 Sounder Road unless otherwise notified.


GBACC News:

The Business Card Exchange was on July 20th at C.M. Bloomers Florist. The event had a Hawaiian theme, with a tropical buffet and Chris and some of her staff dressed in Hawaiian Shirts. Cathy Breeden of Brunswick Wellness Center won a $30.00 gift certificate to Book Crossing donated by Pat Baker of MacKintosh Real Estate. Anneliese D' Souza of D'Souza Financial Strategies won a fresh tropical flower arrangement donated by C.M. Bloomers Florist and Gifts and Sandy Shumate of Bezalel Designs,LLC also won a fresh tropical flower arrangement donated by C.M. Bloomers Florist and Gifts.

C.M Bloomers Florist and Gifts will be running their annual summer sale Aug.1-16 with saving up to 50% off.


Altitude Home Inspections, Inc., is offering another new service. The company is now certified by the Maryland Department of the Environment as a Lead Visual Inspector.


This certification allows Altitude to conduct visual inspections and dust swipe sampling for rental homes registered as part of the MDE Lead Risk Reduction program. Maryland requires all rental properties built prior to 1950 to be registered as part of this important health and safety program. Registered homes must be tested upon every turnover of tenants.


COMING UP AT THE BRUNSWICK LIBRARY:


Brunswick Library evening of great music: Blues with the Barber - part 2 Thursday August 17th at 7:30 p.m.


Brunswick Book Discussion Group (adults) - Meets monthly on the 4th Monday at 7:30 p.m. We will discuss The Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell on Aug. 28. Ask for a copy of the book at the library.


Teen Book Club (grades 6 and up) - Meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Aug. 8 - Peter Raven Under Fire by Michael Malloy


Make and Take Crafts - drop in and make a simple, self-guided craft project during library hours while supplies last. Thursday, Aug. 10: Have fun getting ready for school by making a silly pencil topper.

FIRST FRIDAY – The Great Outdoors,

08/04/06 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Rock climbing wall, fly-fishing demonstrations, camping exhibit, knot tying and children’s stories. Live Bluegrass Music by local band; “Reborn” will perform in Square Corner Park at 7:00 p.m.


Shops on Potomac Street will be open until 9:00 p.m. Other activities sponsored by merchants and organizations during the August First Friday include Book Signing, food for sale, fishing and hunting display, Karaoke, Bingo, Casting and Knot tying, Outdoor Photography speaker and much more. The Brunswick Friends of the Library will hold a book sale.

On a personal note: If you are not seeing the entertainment at Beans you are missing some great entertainers. I saw Todd Baker Saturday night and he was fantastic. If we want to keep the great entertainment in Brunswick we have to support it and these groups are worth supporting.


EVENTS AT BOOK CROSSING FOR AUGUST, 2006:


Author Signing August 4, 5 to 9 pm during Brunswick’s First Friday. John Lamb – “The Mournful Teddy” Author John Lamb, you may have met him when he visited Book crossing with his first novel “Echoes of the Lost Order” is returning with a new paperback cozy mystery series “A Bear Collector’s Mystery”. It officially goes on sale this day and we are honored to have him here for the first initial signing.


Retired San Francisco cop Brad Lyon is settling into a quieter life with his wife Ashleigh in Virginia’s mountain country, where they collect and create teddy bears. Rite Mac Brown remarked, “Once you start, you can’t bear to miss a teddy mystery.”
