GBACC NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 2006

The next monthly membership meeting of the Greater Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Wednesday, October 4th, 7:30 AM, at the Green Country Inn - 620 Souder Road. The meeting will feature Scott Edie, owner of E-Graphics. He will share with us “How to Build Your Business with Bulk Mail”. October’s “Spotlight Speaker” will be GBACC President Ellis Burruss, owner of Bellwether Printing, Ltd. Nominations for the 2007 GBACC Board will be announced at the meeting and will be voted on at the November meeting. All new and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

The next GBACC Business Card Exchange will be at Sundance Art & Frame, 18 West Potomac Street Brunswick, MD. There will be drawings for door prizes and light refreshments will be served. Come out and meet fellow business owners in the Greater Brunswick area.

All monthly membership meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 am at the Green Country Inn, 620 Souder Road, unless otherwise designated.


GBACC NEWS:

The Membership Committee has almost finalized the welcome package for new members. They have also agreed on a new window decal and completed the Certificate of Membership to be given to GBACC members.

On Thursday, September 28th the Stauffer Family hosted the GBACC Business Card Exchange at their Funeral Home on Maple Avenue. The buffet was very lavish and delicious. It was a great opportunity to network with other members. A prospective member, Michael Veilleux of Music Madness, won the first door prize (a gift certificate from Book Crossing). Jeremy Biserof Altitude Home Inspections, Inc. won the second door prize, a gift from Angel White of Occasionally Handbags. The final door prize, a gift certificate from Catherine Tynan of Phoebe’s Travel Trunk, went to Courtney Summers of Stauffer’s Funeral Home.

NEWS FROM THE MEMBERSHIP:

The Brunswick Railroad Museum is pleased to announce the opening of a special exhibit on the 2nd floor Social History Gallery:

"A Day Will Come...Death in the Late Victorian Era".

Artifacts featured from the museum collection include...garments, photographs and children's caskets, as well as documentation from the Brunswick Death Registry c. 1900.

Learn what a body basket was used for…why mirrors were covered up, why clock hands were stopped, and what the purpose was of holding a wake...

Exhibit dates: October 7th through November 12th, 2006

GBACC member Mary McCormack and her team at Sage Small Business Services LLC are chairing the Original Oktoberfest at Schifferstadt Museum in Frederick this year. This German Fall Festival runs October 21st and 22nd. $3 admission gives access to a juried art/craft show, a traditional Oompah band, German wurst and bier, children’s activities, tours of the 250 year old Schifferstadt house and colonial craft demonstrations. Volunteers are welcome or just come out for fun. Proceeds benefit Frederick County Landmarks Foundation.
