GBACC GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING MAY 5, 2009

The GBACC President called the meeting to order at 7:15 AM.    Seventeen members were in attendance.

The minutes of the March meeting were accepted as posted on the web site.

David Swope gave the income and expenses report. The treasures report was accepted as given. For a complete treasurer report please contact David.

Membership Committee: Cheryl Wathen Committee co-chair reported on proposed advertisements for the Brunswick Citizen directed at small and home businesses. She said one of the benefits of GBACC membership was if a member does an advertisement on their own it could cost as much as $400.00 but with GBACC the cost would be about $30.00. A letter will be going to businesses in a ten-mile area with the subject “What you can get for $85.00”. Ben Mourad, co-chair of the Committee, gave a report on a program for board members to invite members and prospective members out in small groups for lunch or coffee to discuss GBACC.
A motion was made and passed to approve the membership report including the expenses for advertising.

Costco Wholesale will have a business expo on Saturday, May 16th to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. The Expo is from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Costco estimates around 200 or more members walk through the door every half an hour. GBACC members can display their business literature and enhance their participation by working the table. An email notice will be sent out with more details. A motion was made and passed that GBACC pay the $250.00 for the table.

Activities: The GBACC board canceled The May 2nd Trade Show. Businesses had not signed up in sufficient number to have the show. The reason most often given for not participating in the show was the slow economy. The next Trade show will be in April 2010. The first meeting to organize it will be on Monday, June 8th, 6:30 pm at the Green Country Inn. Meetings will follow on the second Monday of each month. The date will be decided at that meeting.
Jerry announced the next business card exchange would be at Gallery in the Woods on May 21st. The June 18th Business Card Exchange will be at Georges Mill Farm B&B and the July BCE will be at the Farmers Market. Jerry also explain a proposal to have a GBACC tent at the October 3 and 4, 2009 Brunswick Railroad Days. A reception would be on Friday night and members would be encouraged to display their business literature on Saturday and Sunday. More details will be announced later on this event.

Announcements: Brunswick City Council Member Karin Tome announced a Business/nonresidential Recycling program starting Monday, May 18, 2009.
The Farmers Market scheduled to start Wednesday May 6 has been postponed to Wednesday May 13th due to weather.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 8:0      5 AM.

The speaker for the meeting was Jerry Connelly of Pleasants Development, Inc. Mr. Connelly gave an update on Brunswick Crossing and answered questions. He told the members present construction on the 380,00 square foot business space would begin before the housing development. A decision on the food store to anchor the business space is being decided
