In the absence of the GBACC President, Ben Mourad, GBACC Vice, President called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM. Ten members were in attendance.
The minutes of the March meeting were accepted as posted on the web site.
David Swope gave the income and expenses report. The treasures report was accepted as given. For a complete treasurer report please contact David.
Membership Committee: Phil Graves suggested GBACC have a membership drive and offer a discount if current or new members pay within a two-month period. An ad proposed by GBACC President Ellis Burruss directed at small businesses was briefly discussed. It was agreed it should go forward. Phil passed around a GBACC business card he is proposing GBACC buy to hand out to potential members. The members present were in favor of it and it will be presented to the board for approval.
Activities: Jerry advised the next Business Card Exchange would be at Georges Mill Farm B&B in Lovettsville on June 18th. Everyone was very enthusiastic about a proposed Railroad Day reception and display tent. The reception would be on Friday, October 2 followed by the Railroad Days set up on October 3rd and 4th. It was suggested in the reception is going to include alcoholic beverages it would be better to have it at Cripple Creek Antiques or some business. It was proposed a large banner with GBACC and the day of the month of our business meeting be prominently displayed. GBACC members are invited to display their information and to staff the tent to get their message out. The “Shop Local” program should be used at the tent. Entertainment and give away items should be included at the tent to attract people to the area. A committee will be formed to work out the details, please watch the bulletin for more information.
Announcements: Hanna Politis of “Main Street” gave some information on the June 2010 Heritage Music Festival. Representative of “Main Street” are the speakers at the July Business Meeting and will give more information about this and other “Main Street” projects. Katherine Iacovelli announced EDC upcoming events including the EDC meeting is the first Thursday of the month, 7:00 pm at City Hall.
The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
The speaker for the meeting was Phil Graves. Phil discussed how GBACC Members could use Twitter and Face Book for businesses purposes. Many questions were asked but due to time restraints Phil could not answer everything. He is participating in the Frederick Social Media Conference has posted all his materials at http://www.smc.outofthemud.org
