GBACC GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING, JUNE 9, 2010

GBACC President, Ellis Burruss, called the meeting to order at 7:45 AM.    Twelve persons were in attendance.

1)         The minutes were accepted as posted on the GBACC Web Site.

2)         GBACC Treasurer David Swope gave the Treasurer’s Report. For more information on the Treasurers Report please contact David Swope.

3)         Membership: June Membership Renewal notices had been sent out.

Due to poor attendance at regular monthly meetings, the issue of GBACC business meeting schedules was discussed in detail. Members suggested quarterly or bi-monthly meetings. Some members think quarterly meetings are too far apart and will cause members to lose interest in GBACC and cause us to become a more board-driven than member directed. The unfavorable experience of other organizations that had eliminated business meetings in favor of internet meetings was shared. Meetings need to have substantive issues, such as positions on actions of local government, to attract members. We will consider before-work informal coffee and snacks on those months without substantive agendas.

The bylaws commit us to the July and August meetings for the officer elections.

The topic will be discuss at the next Board Meeting and suggestions will be presented at the July Business Meeting.

4)         Promotions: Ellis showed a proposal for a smaller place mat, it was accepted by the members present and will be given to Robert Bell to implement.

5)         Events/Activities:

The June Business Card Exchange will be Thursday, June 17th at Grasshopper Garden and Patio.

The August Business Card Exchange will be Thursday, August 12th at WeatherLea Farm and will be with the Lovettsville Business Association (LBA).

Trade Show – GBACC is awaiting the announcement from the Frederick Chamber of Commerce for the date we can sign up for the Trade Show before we make final arrangements for our participations.

A motion that GBACC and Brunswick Main Street will host a join Brunswick Railroad Day Reception on Friday, October 1st was passed.

Members present voted to have a shredding day in cooperation with a Brunswick "give back" day in late July. Details will be worked out at the Board Meeting.

6)         Work with the EDC.

Several Memo’s of Understanding from the EDC on activities for GBACC to either share or take over were proposed:

GBACC and the EDC would co-host the monthly Business Breakfast.

GBACC and the EDC would work together on the ribbon cutting events for new businesses particularly outside of the Mainstreet area.

GBACC would take over the welcome baskets. Better efforts will be made to get information for the welcome baskets from local businesses well in advance of the distributions.

All of the agreements were accepted by voice vote.
