GBACC BOARD AND COMMITTEE MINUTES
PUBLICITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES 08/09/06
Attending: Hanna Politis, Bill Gilbert, Ellis Burruss and Jerry Knight
Channel 25 has a proposal for advertising on their station. It would be live on the news and would open with a town profile, followed by a history segment, a business-economy profile, key sponsor profile and then a personality profile. It would spotlight the community. Jerry will send an email to the GBACC Membership with information regarding such.
Ellis is planning to do a Loudoun Times Mirror insert by September 15th. The price of the ads will be calculated and an announcement will be sent out to the GBACC Membership.
An insert for the Frederick News Post is being considered for the Frederick City area, similar to the ones done in the past for the Jefferson/Brunswick area, but designated for Frederick city, only.
GBACC will have a booth at Railroad Days. The booth will have information on GBACC, plus flyers and business cards from GBACC members. The Brunswick Business Directory will be distributed here at this time. Diane Ellis has an estimate for a banner to be used on the booth. Hanna suggested we ask City Hall to put the booths in the middle of the street rather than by the sidewalks to have a better flow for foot traffic. Ellis suggested it may be too late for this year but it should be brought up at the first Railroad Days meeting for next year.
Several people have suggested GBACC sponsor a calendar for 2007. The members present discussed the possibility of this calendar. It was agreed to incorporate old photos or post cards of Brunswick with advertising on the bottom of the page. Ellis will get an estimated price for this type of calendar and we will sell advertising to GBACC members. Advertising revenues would pay for the calendar and it could be a free handout.
Halloween was discussed briefly. GBACC will co-sponsor it with the city. It is a repeat event so GBACC would not have to do much for it. Some minor advertising may be required.
A new store will open soon in the Brunswick Shopping Center. Ellis suggested we might want to have some kind of welcoming event. More information is needed about when the business will open. Bill Gilbert was asked if he could find out the date of opening.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.
PUBLICITY/ADVERTISING COMMITTEE - May 26, 2006
Attending: Ellis Burruss, Hanna Politis, Beth Johnson and Jerry Knight
A table will be at the next Business Card Exchange and General Membership Meeting with information concerning co-op Advertising for GBACC Members.
Frederick Post – GBACC will have a full-page ad for the Independence Day Celebration. Autumn Hollis is making a draft copy to use for selling the advertisements. Ellis will continue to run the regular insert in the Post.
Loudoun Time-Mirror – Jerry will gather information on prices for an insert to go to the Lovettsville, Purcellville, and Lucketts area. We will try to get a 25% discount on the insert.
Placemats – Ellis will continue the place mats and will try to get one done for late June. July and August place mats are done by the fire Co. to promote their Mud Bog so he does not publish.
All advertisements will be done with GBACC getting priority and former advertisers having the first opportunity to advertise.
Ellis is having talks with Catherine of EDC and the Mayor to have GBACC publish the local business directory. September is the target date to have a directory published.
A bulk mail permit can be obtained for an application fee of $150.00 and a yearly fee of $150.00. This would allow a discount of about 12 cents per piece for more than 200 items. If GBACC will pay the application fee Bellwether Printing would pay the yearly fee. Ellis will investigate this further and report to the Board.
